SIAC Roadshow - Tokyo, 16 October 2014
SIAC hosted its final arbitration training video workshop of 2014 on 16 October at the Ark Hills Club in Tokyo. This is the 2nd annual conference that SIAC has held in Tokyo and it saw a good turnout of 125 delegates. Nearly half of the delegates were in-house counsel and over a third were lawyers from local and international law firms.
The workshop was designed to provide a “practical guide to international arbitration”. It combined various clips from the SIAC arbitration training video with panel discussions to demonstrate a typical SIAC commercial arbitration from commencement through to the enforcement stage. There were lively and informative discussions between delegates and panellists during the sessions, on a variety of topics such as the importance of drafting an arbitration clause correctly, the emergency arbitrator special procedure, cross-examination and hot-tubbing, and enforcement of arbitral awards in Asia.
Delegates commented that the seminar gave them an in-depth understanding of the arbitral process and an insight into current issues and hot topics in international arbitration. During the sessions, many questions and comments were raised from the floor, reflecting the delegates' interest in international arbitration and the SIAC arbitration training video.
SIAC would like to thank the Tokyo Bar Association, the Japan Association of Arbitrators, The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Japan In House Lawyers Association for supporting this event. We would also like to thank all the speakers for their participation and sponsorship support, including Mr Hiroyuki Tezuka and Mr Alvin Yeo SC, both Members of the SIAC Court of Arbitration, who delivered the opening and closing addresses respectively.
