SIAC Cocktail Reception
3 December 2013
About 280 guests attended a cocktail reception hosted by SIAC on 3 December 2013 at Maxwell Chambers. The Honourable Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and Mr Lucien Wong, Chairman of SIAC, each delivered welcome addresses to the guests who were mainly comprised of local and overseas based arbitrators and practitioners.
Ms Lim Seok Hui, CEO of SIAC, announced that SIAC would be organising its first-ever SIAC Congress on 6 June 2014, to be held in Singapore, which would be SIAC's annual signature event going forward. The theme of the conference was "Dispute Resolution Asia - Innovation and Change in an Age of Opportunity - A View from the Lion City". The speakers and topics would focus on the suite of dispute resolution service offerings which would be available in Singapore to users in the second half of 2014, including (in addition to the existing international arbitration offering) the new Singapore International Commercial Court and Singapore International Mediation Centre initiatives. Further information on the SIAC Congress would be provided shortly.
Ms Lim also announced that SIAC was in the process of developing a mock arbitration training video, which would be produced and directed by award winning Singaporean film director Eric Khoo and his team. The video would showcase Singapore as a preferred seat and venue for international arbitration, and depict the workings of SIAC as a leading arbitral institution. There would be subtitles available in various languages including Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia. The cast would feature many well known names in international arbitration, and the project would be a joint collaboration effort by both international and local law firms and other organisations. The video would be officially launched at the Gala Dinner of the SIAC Congress on 7 June 2014 as the closing highlight of this event.
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Law, Dr Beh Swan Gin, also graced the cocktail reception.
