Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) is delighted to congratulate Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon who was the recipient of Global Arbitration Review's 'Best Lecture or Speech Award for 2012', for his keynote address at the opening of ICCA Singapore 2012.
This award was chosen by an online vote from GAR readers and was presented to Cavinder Bull SC, Deputy Chairman of SIAC on the Chief Justice's behalf at the anuual GAR award ceremony which was hosted on the eve of the IBA Arbitration Day, in Bogota last Thursday. The award was presented by the Chair of GAR's Editorial Board, J William Rowley QC, who described Chief Justice Menon's keynote speech for "International Arbitration: The Coming of the New Age for Asia (and Elsewhere)" as "game changing". This is the first time that Singapore has won a GAR award.
Singapore also received a nomination for the "Most Important Published Decision of 2012 in Jurisprudential Terms" for the judgment of Ang J in Astro v Lippo.
This marks the end of a very successful arbitration year for Singapore where SIAC handled a record number of 235 new arbitration filings and hosted the ICCA 2012 Congress, which attracted 1059 participants from 59 countries, the largest event in ICCA's history.
SIAC looks forward to repeating the sucsess of 2012 next year.
